New from North Florida

:welcome

It's so nice to have you here! I was in FL until 2016 and still miss it.

When you go to select a site for your coop, keep in mind that shade is your friend (and your chickens). Take a look through the Coop section for ideas, especially coops that are more 'open' than 'closed'. And make it bigger than you think you'll need...chickens have a way of mysteriously multiplying :D

Best of luck to you and have fun!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. This one in particular may interest you at this stage:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Lots of coop ideas here! https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/chicken-coops.12/

Build for more chickens than you plan on having buy double. Chickens are very crafty at growing their flock(actually it is the owners LOL!)

I've got family in Zephyrhills, and have been blessed to walk the beach in Sarasota and watch the dolphins playing in the surf, been to the sponge docks on west coast, picked strawberries in Central FL. Saw the everglades as a child. What a wonderful state!
Ha, I live in Zephyrhills. :frow
