Hi,


I have been on this site for a couple years but just joined today! Looking forward to sharing our experience :)

Thanks! Yes we do have chickens. We have Rhode Island Reds, Golden Buffs and Black Australorps. We will be expanding next week and including Barred Rocks and Leghorns to the above mentioned :)

You have some great layers. Golden Buff is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. Not only can the offspring be sexed by color at hatching, but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those girls. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years, and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock! It sounds like you have some nice breeds. You'll get lots of eggs, for sure! Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds are some of the best egg layers.
