Hi! You guys have posted a wealth of information on this site!!! We live on 80+ acres w/ DH, myself, DD (15 yo), DS (8 yo), 1 Blue Heeler and 2 cats. We had chickens about 16 years ago but they were old when we inherited them and never replenished our layers. Since we inherited those hens and 1 mean rooster we never had to decide what breed to keep. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. DH loves brown eggs by the way.

There are quite a few great brown egg layers, depending on your focus. If you'd like to have a standard size chickens 'long term' flock, Delawares or Orphingtons are a good choice. They'll lay consistently for a longer period of time.

Did you want to start with chicks or get ready to lay pullets? You'll have a lot of information by just searching for previous posts on various topics.
