Hello

I am jumping on here and trying to find my way....Been thinking about getting chickens for a few years and we are ready to dive in! We are searching for baby chicks to arrive in time for Christmas....anyone selling chicks in the San Diego area? Tips for what kind to get. So excited and a little overwhelmed on here

Looking forward to learning....

If you want to make the drive to Valley Center I noticed Terrys had some chicks a couple of days ago. They order from Pritchart (sp) hatchery and I've always had good luck with their birds.

Welcome!!

Wow thanks for all the welcomes....

What kind of chicks were at Terrys? I don't even know who/what that is but am willing to drive. What kind? I saw Barred Rocks in Hesperia. I am trying to figure out what to start out with. I was thinking 3 chicks and now to decide what is best for our area? Any thoughts?

Terrys is one of the feed stores in Valley Center. Not sure what kind of chicks they were. Some looked like barred rock and the others were yellow. You can call them and ask.

The good thing about our weather is we can have any kind of chick we want. I started with a brown egg assortment - it didn't take long to have favorites. My husband loves buff orpingtons. The barred rocks and black astrolops (sp) are nice and I have to admit I love the all. Google some breeds and see what you like.

Have fun!

Awesome! Thanks for the help. I have Barred Rock on my list. Does anyone know if silkies are good layers? I need to research that more as I am getting mixed reviews....but I just LOVE the looks of these birds! Would love to have them!!!

Thanks so much! I am getting so excited!
