So my name is Shannon. I grew up with chickens, never thought about it then. Now as an adult, I just purchased my first flock, 16 strong. I have 2 Gold lace Wyandotte, 2 White Leghorns, 2 Black Sex-Link, 2 Americana, 2 Starlight Green Egger, 1 Rhode Island Red, 4 Bantams (Millie Fleur and Crele Old English) and my last one, I'm not sure what she is, possible a Black-Lace Wyandotte. I absolutely adore raising these chicks. They are so full of personality and make me laugh with their quirkiness. I have clear favorites (2 leghorns and the mystery chick) they actually enjoy sitting with me. Hobbies for me are knitting and watching movies. We have a zoo at the house. 16 chickens, 3 Bearded Dragons, 2 turtles, 3 dogs, and 3 cats. I live about a mile from a state park, so I am very much out in the woods. I haven't had issue with predators, but I've noticed their return since the passing of my livestock dog, so soon we will have 4 dogs again. I am currently looking for a livestock guardian for the chickens.

My fiancee had no choice in the matter of the chicks. I just kinda bought them and brought them home. I found this forum while researching the breeds of my chickens. And I was so glad I did. So much information on here! Glad to be apart of the Backyard Chickens.

Welcome fellow South Carolina chicken person. I am in Mountville, out in the middle of nowhere so roosters are not an issue for me. We do have a hawk issue in SC. I netted my entire backyard. It looks ridiculous but the chickens are safe.
Yes I have noticed the Hawks. We have a nesting pair in one of our pine trees in the back. We bought one of those big enclosed runs for the birds to keep the hawks at bay. We have had an issue with foxes. They disappeared after we got our livestock dog, but I saw one of the greys the other day running out of my backyard. So we are currently looking into another livestock guardian.
