Hello,

I'm Garnet, and I've become crazy for chickens. I'm guessing my madness may deepen, since I only caught this bug about 2-3 months ago. I never imagined I'd have an interest in chickens, let alone keeping chickens myself.

I've been reading a lot on the web, and have read three books about raising chickens (Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, Keep Chickens!, and The Small-Scale Poultry Flock). I bought my day-old chicks at a local feed store three weeks ago, and they are growing quickly. I'm having a lot of fun watching their silly and interesting behavior. Just yesterday my custom-made coop from Dana and Michael of My Urban Farm (http://myurbanfarm.net) was delivered, and I'll be starting work tomorrow on preparing it for the girls (hopefully!). Guess it'll be another month or so before they're ready to move in.

I've gotten some helpful information from the BYC site since I started my research on keeping chickens, and figured I ought to become a member so I can start learning more!

I'm looking forward to my crazy adventures with chickens!

Hello and :welcome

Silly would definitely be one way to describe it. My first chicks all followed the leader trying to stuff their little bodies through a hole in the brooder roof.

Glad you're enjoying your chickens, and I hope you find everything you need on the site! :frow

Thanks for all the welcomes!

My three-week-old chickies had their first outdoor adventure today! I fenced off a section of my yard and let them do their thing for about half an hour. I decided to take them back inside once the vultures started circling.
