Im Cora. My husband Steven and our 18 month old daughter Lilly picked up our first 5 chicks on Saturday. We've been wanting to do it for a while, so when we went out to the feed store to get alfalfa for our goats we saw what they had and Lilly started talking to these wonderful chicks.

Here they are! We really don't know much about them. The feed store had them as New Hampshire Reds. They had no clue of the age and are straight run. Here's hoping we got some layers in there!
We are hoping to raise chickens for both meat and eggs. They are in a smaller run for now, but still plenty big for these chicks, while my husband works on the big coop.
We hope to eventually get 20 chicks, as allowed by the coop and run we are building and by county code for our property. My daughter and I both have lots of food allergies and sensitivities, and we both react strongly to store bought meat and eggs, both organic and non, but do not react our friends eggs.
I am hoping to learn many things not only about the chicks that we have right now, but to help us prepare for when they become chickens and for our future flock.
I grew up around animals of all kinds, but its been a LONG time since I have had chicks. We also have 2 goats, 2 dogs, and 3 cats and hope to expand our little hobby farm more.
