Hello, everyone! It's nice to meet you all! I just found this forum and have already learned alot. I've raised chickens since I was nine (sixteen years ago) and love it. My chickens have made me smile on bad days and helped me see and enjoy the small blessings in life.
Right now, I have about 15 chickens of several breeds, and am hoping to increase my flock this year so I can sell eggs. I also have two Black Spanish Turkeys and two mongrel geese. I love my poultry-they are such a blessing!!

Welcome Betsy....I too am in Indiana. Se part. We started a year ago, with a rescued RIR Roo. He was skinny and injured. Well....he soon had 3 girlfriends, as he was lonely. Then a few weeks later, there were 15 more "friends" added....the coop. The yard we made was WAY too large for just 4 chickens. Now....a year later....there are 17 more peeps in the brooder...Buff Orpingtons. We chose them for thier egg production. I cant keep up with the orders .. so we HAD to get more. Hubby just rolled his eyes! LOL I love this site...so friendly, and so much information!

Hi Betsy! and WELCOME!

Where in Indiana are you? There are a bunch of us Hoosiers here, scattered throughout the state.

Be sure to check out the Indiana thread, and the Indiana Chickenstock thread. Heck, check them ALL out!

What kinds of chickens do you have?

Hi Betsy. I'm in NY and have been doing chickens for two years though my brother raised them when we were kids. Welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll be able to give us relative new comers tips too!!!!

Thanks so much for all the welcomes. It's so neat that there are so many Hoosiers on this board! I live a few miles south of Fort Wayne. Currently, I have Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, Sicilian Buttercups, and a Sicilian Buttercup mix. The Sicilian Buttercups have a special place in my heart due to their love of congregating on my back given the chance

Wow- you are close! Hoosierchick is close too, in Albion. Do you ever go to the big Wolf's swap? Some of us are meeting there for a day of fun, then we go & eat! Come & join us.
