Hey all
I decided to raise chickens for eggs and meat as part of an effort to become more self-sufficient and to have more control over the quality of food that my family and I eat.
I live in the center of an urban jungle in the southwestern United States on 1/8th of an acre, most of which is covered by my house.
I purchased six Rhode Island Red hens (chicks) at the local feed store and currently have them in a cardboard box brooder set up in a back room of my house.
I am converting an old playhouse I built when my kids were young into a chicken coop.
So far things seem to be going fine but I venture to say that you will be hearing from me regularly; especialy during the next few months.
