Hey y’all! I’ve always wanted to farm and finally decided to get started this year. There’s always been one excuse or another but here we go…
I am currently building my coop and covered run, as I have several hawks, at least one fox, raccoon, etc. and a bear.
I moved to Berkeley Co. WV 2 years ago. As I’m BRAND NEW to this, I will definitely welcome any advice on what birds you recommend for my area. My current plan is for 3–4 layers to start with, then several meat birds soon after.

Welcome from Australia I'm happy for you that your dream is coming true

Hello hello from Southern Manitoba! You've found a great place for information here. People definitely know their stuff! I'm relatively new to keeping farm birds as well (In my case, coturnix quail) and I've found some great help here! From enclosures to breeds and eggs and incubation - nothing is too embarrassing to ask or talk about, LOL!
