Not only am I new to BYC's forums, I'm new to the whole chicken thing. On Mar. 20th we got our first peeps...2 Silver-laced Wyandottes. And then for the next couple weeks, I added two new chicks each week. First Rhode Island Reds and then Barred Plymouth Rocks. In a flurry of impulse I ended this years collection with 4 Buff Orpingtons. So, 10 chicks. All in a 3'x3'x2'high brooder box in my livingroom/kitchen.

This week the oldest 4 (SLW & RIR) moved outside into the newly built chicken tractor. HURRAY!!!! And today the younger peeps went out for a daytime visit. I will admit it, I miss their peeping sounds. LOL! On the other hand... can they ALL stay out NOW? HA! No, just for the day still. Those little rocks and blondies don't have enough feathers yet to take on a 40 degree night.

I found BYC because I had tons of questions and did a Google search. FABULOUS site. I've come here over and over again... sent my husband here over and over again to get answers to our questions. THANK YOU BYC!

My husband and I share an acre with my parents (mom has Alz.), our developmentally-challenged 27yo son and when they're not in school, our 18yo daughter and 16yo son. The "family members" with fur, feathers & fins... a Border Collie, a Poodle/Chi cross, a wicked cat (she drew blood today. Beast!), two gold fish, and now our flock of chicks.

I like to knit, sew, quilt, bake, cook, eat (;-D) and I'm learning basket weaving this fall. YIPPEE!!!
