Hello, My name is Julie and I started raising chickens last mothers day. A gift from my boys. I have loved it ever since. I started with five and am now down to three. Dog attacks have claimed two and have sadly injured two, but they have recovered and are doing well. Searching for what to do with an injured chicken has brought me to BYC and I have found it very useful. Thank you to all who have posted wonderful ideas.
I have two Speckled Sussex and one Road Island Red. My two Sussex stopped laying for a while. One is now laying again but is very vocal right before she lays her egg. Almost like she is in pain. Is this normal? The other one is not laying but she was also one that is recovering. She seems to have healed, but I am wondering why she has not been laying yet?
Incase anyone is wondering, yes my chicken are in a very safe coop, but I like to let them out to range when we are working outside and a neighbor dog got loose. No problems since and we watch this very carefully. Crossing fingers it will not happen again.
