Chirping
Hi there! I am somewhat new with chickens. I got my first flock as chicks back in March 2021. I have 5 chickens right now. I call of them mutts. They were called Easter eggers where I bought them, but I looked on the website of the hatchery they purchased them from and I guessing my browns are ones they call Brown, my black one is probably a Special Black, and I have no clue what my white one is because they show no white chickens on their website.
I used to be a photographer, but now it is more of a hobby. I now work for an industrial parts distributer, which is handy when you need parts for your tractors. I have a 4 year old daughter, 3 crazy dogs (2 chocolate labs-littermates and a red cattle dog). My husband and I built our house on 16 acres about 7 years ago. (We got married and two days later started bricking our house.) We have been pretty much continually working on our land since there is a lot of it. We eventually want to get more farm animals, but are taking it one step at a time.
I had found out about BYC from anytime I needed help on what to do with my chickens. I would go online and would find a thread from BYC that had the answers I was looking for. I decided to become a member when I started having health problems with one of my chickens and the closest vet that handles chickens is an hour away. I did not like that I live in a rural area with no real farm animal vet in the area and as much as I love my chickens and don't want to take a day off work to take a chicken to be looked at and given a ridiculous bill all because they didn't want to give advice without looking at the bird in person. BYC seemed to be the best with answers and help. This is where the real experts are.
