Hello! I've come to this site many times by way of Google searches, gotten lots of great help, and decided it's time to register. We are completely new to raising chickens, just finished building our coop in June. We have six girls -- 2 gold stars, 2 Rhode Island reds, and 2 barred rocks, all 10 weeks old. I'm a writer, my husband's a dermatologist, and we have a 3-year-old son, a 7-year-old daughter, and a nice orange tabby cat named Oliver. My daughter felt that every chicken should be named, so our girls are: Lavender, Misha-Rita, Paula Deen, Kathy Jane, Pip Squeak, and Anne Rice (as in chicken and rice). But we have no intentions of eating any of them, just their eggs.

Hello and welcome to BYC. We name our chickens too. Sometimes I will let my girls bring their chick in the house to sit on their lap(with a bath towel underneath). We do have 8 lap chickens. It's been a blast raising them. Have fun and good luck with your first egg! We are expecting eggs any day now!
