Hi there.
I recently (as in 2 years ago) bought a little place in Hazelwood, Missouri with a fairly signifigant backyard.
Ever since we moved in, we spoke of having chickens.
As of this Monday, we are building a coop to house them.

I've been a lurker on this site for the last 2 years at least trying to figure out everything I could about the joys of this past time.
Now I'm just hoping to find a reputable breeder that's not a hatchery to get my birds from so we can begin!
I was considering starting with 24 Barred Rocks and 2 Cornish roosters (so we can cross them at some point, ) mostly want to use them for eggs, and don't like the leghorns, but we are also considering Buffs.
Any input on how well a Buff Cornish cross meat tastes?

Anyways, here's to jumping in!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad you joined. I can't help with the crossing, I just buy the cornish X chicks so I don't have to mess with having anymore roosters around. :thumbsup

Thanks for all the salutations!

I ordered 10 Barred Rock pullets, 10 Buff Orpington pullets, and 2 Cornish Cockrels from Cackle Hatchery, I'm picking them up March 13th, 2012.
Here's to hoping it works out!
