New GA Chick Mom

Sorry it took so long to post these! Photographing chickens is hard!! We have 3 different batches at different ages. Most of my whitings are in the 2nd batch. They still think I am trying to murder them when I get too close, so getting pictures is REALLY difficult. These are some of my big girls (7-week olds) who finally got to experience their new chicken coop & yard this weekend. The last one is our mystery chick, so I'm not sure what she is yet.

You did a good job getting some nice photos! Taking pictures of chickens is like taking pictures of squirrels...they are all over the place

Nice coop. I will be a great coop if you open up those soffits and cover them with 1/2" hardware cloth and install a ridge vent and 1/2" hardware cloth backed windows.

They are beautiful, and you take marvelous pictures! We're getting pictures for a 2026 BYC Calendar contest. You can also access other contests from there. I think you'd do great!

Thank you, DobieLover. The angle of my picture doesn't show everything that's there. We do have hardware cloth backed windows on each side and extra ventilation on the backside, with fans. It's still a work in progress. We've had some very chilly mornings here and with our girls still being so young, I didn't want to have it too open just yet. We'll definitely look into opening up the soffits for the summer though.

Your birds are fully feathered. As long as there are no strong winds blowing on them, they will be much better off with maximum ventilation. My coop has been fully opened up since March. I only closed the windows if we got strong night winds with temps dipping below freezing. But that is now past us and the window will remain open until November.

LOL! I'm a new "mom" and a worrywart.....probably not the best combination to have. We'll get back to opening them up more. Thanks!

Just thought I'd share a few more pictures of my 2nd batch. These are all True Blue Whitings. It's crazy how varied their colors are!!
