Hi
We adopted an entire gaggle of 14 embdens from another farmer.
We think we have about 6 females.
We are getting 1 egg each day right now. (Vancouver Island BC)
We have a large dog house type structure that some females are using and had most eggs laid there lately.
We have noticed that the most dominate male is now chasing females out of the house when they go in. We don't know if it just females he is not mated with or all females.
Is he just protecting the nest for his own females from other females?
Also we are told they are pure embdens but have 6 with a lot of grey and a bit of brown on the wings.
Thanks

How old are they? if '09 Hatch they may become white on the next molt. I don't know why, I am just reporting what happened with my white geese. I was all upset that they weren't "pure" and I was told to wait until after the molt and everything was white but one little feather.

I am by no means the expert... this is my first year with geese but I only have 2 females and I get about 1 egg per day. With 6, I'd think you'd get more? then again I'm NOT the expert

Just chiming in!

We made a "goose garage" and none of mine use it yet but they seem to nest anywhere they think looks good. I've had to move a nest 2 times so far this year and they always seem to like the new spots... except for when I tried to move one of the nests into a dog igloo... that never worked for me but someone else on here said it worked for them. Anyway, maybe you could add another basic structure. Of the 5 geese I have, I have 2 gander and 1 goose who are more dominant and they always eat first and drink first. Then the other 2, a gander and a goose come along second. They are often getting chased away. I guess they just run in "cliques" (just like people!)

I see a lot of fighting between the pair and three and they often walk around together, all 5 but I definitely notice a difference in social behavior with the 3 versus the 2.
