New Georgia member - which supersedes: city livestock code or R3 zoning rules?

Hi BYC! I'm a resident of Johns Creek, GA. I have no experience with raising chickens (I'm planning on raising meat rabbits also) and I joined to see if I could get some information about the restrictions for raising livestock in Johns Creek. I believe that there is a coming food shortage and I want to get out ahead of it!

There is already a post about confusion regarding the Johns Creek regulations versus the R3 zoning regulations. I can build following the Johns Creek regulations by placing my coop more than 100 feet from any neighbor, but I can't do it 200 feet, as the R3 zoning seems to demand. The post doesn't have any conclusive answers about which rule applies. Does anyone know if I can actually build the coop and get started, or will I run afoul of the zoning restrictions? I'd hate to get started just to find out that I'm forced to tear it down.

Thanks for any help!

It’s nice to meet you!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Can you call them and ask directly for clarification?
Yes, I'm sure I can do that, but if I'm not technically allowed to do it, I may be tempted to do it anyway and hope no one complains. If that's the case, I'd rather not be on their radar. Maybe that's stupid. . . .I don't know.

You don't have to tell them your name. Or address. Just your zone and property size.

I can practically guarantee though, that some neighbor will notice and feel it is their solemn duty to call in and report you. There is always at least one neighbor like that. Better to be legal if that is possible in your area. Hope things work out for you.
Thanks - I have a strong feeling I know exactly which neighbor it will be, unfortunately.
