Hi, I am new to BYC but have read many threads in The past year prepping for my girls. I have 10 Columbian Rocks and 5 Americaunas. My girls have been raised from day old chicks and started laying 3 weeks ago. My kids love helping out with the girls and are becoming mini chicken experts! We are in Canada and face -30 to -35C weather for several months here so I will have lots of questions as we head into our first winter with hens. Our girls are a mix of free ranging and having a large encolsed run with a roof attached to thier coop. Loving having our girls and enjoying the best egg breakfasts ever!!!

G’Day from down under Prairiegrl :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

:frowWelcome!

Kids and chickens are a fun combination!

I'm in the southeast us where it's mostly humid and warm to hot with just a splash of chilly and a couple of dashes of cold.
But not like YOUR COLD!
I don't envy you your winter weather!

You'll enjoy being a member of BYC.
There are lots of nice people, always willing to help out with a question. You may get a lot of answers to choose from which is great! It helps you think outside the box!

Welcome to BYC. I think you would also enjoy "Canadians, check in here." thread. Hopefully some BYCERS live near you. They make great mentors. Also I recommend a thread called "J'est Another Day in Pear A Dice," a thread by a very nice lady living in Alberta. She has figured out how to get her animals through the worst sort of weather.

She has Chantecler chickens , a breed originated in Canada to survive the extreme weather conditions. Also swans, geese, ducks, hair sheep, Llama ,and two genuine Australian Cattle dogs.
