Hi,
I've been on BYC for a while as a chicken owner, but have now got a couple of goslings. Unfortunately I bought them off one of the gypsy vans that come round here in greece, and they weren't well raised to say the least and were a right scruffy poorly little pair.
I don't know how old they are, and I've had them about 3 weeks. They are starting to get tail feathers, and have grown enormously :)
Sadly they both have had a chest infection and have had antibiotic injections and are now on oral antibiotics. The girl is recovering well, but the bigger one who I assume is a boy is still coughing a bit. They're eating well though and adore watermelon and cucumber. There's not much grass here at this time of year. Anyway I think they're fab even though they've had a poor start.
Of course you shouldn't buy off these people but I felt so sorry for them.

Hey, I disagree. On the one hand, you may be indirectly supporting bad people's practices, but on the other hand, you saved this pair. So, good on you!

Recommend adding broccoli, peas and romaine lettuce to their diet. All provide good nutrients.

Thanks, they already like lettuce so I will definitely give them some broccoli and peas.

How do you get them to liking other vegetables? Mine love green leaf and romaine lettuce and watermelon. But I cannot seem to get them interested in expanding their horizon.

My 2 are eating very well but mostly lettuce and cucumber still. There's no grass here in the summer, and broccolli not very often in the shops, so they are getting their favourite watermelon a lot. They had some apple and peach and liked that too.
They're not keen on the dry chick food I buy, and the flies round their food are awful! Generally they are recovering well though.
