We are a new owner to a 4 day old gosling! We fell into this due to my going into my feed store for horse dewormers and I never can resist peeking into stock tanks for a smile looking at the chicks and ducklings. Looked into one and saw this ‘duck’ laying on his back trying to sleep. I immediately knew that wasn’t normal. We went back the next day to bring him home if he was still there. Ironically my 16 yr old daughter tells me as we’re getting what we need to care for this ‘duck’, ‘mom, you know this is a goose, right?’ Imagine my surprise. Did more research to find out what wrong with our new family member and I’m pretty sure it’s niacin deficiency. We’re putting nutritional yeast in his food and adding electrolytes to his water-Going on day 2, so far so good. My daughter is a worrying mama
praying he will make a full recovery and if he does we may need to get him a flock mate.
