Its part barred rock (mom) with welsummer roo for dadyellow band
In that case it is definitely a cockerel because that mix makes for sex linked chicks, and only the males will be barred. Its part barred rock (mom) with welsummer roo for dad
Not sure looks like she cut her leg on something it was bleeding when I went out to band them ...so cleaned her up and wrapped itPullet.
What happened to her leg?
I thought both my barred rocks were boys ....i did Google info on that and both born with white spot on top of headIn that case it is definitely a cockerel because that mix makes for sex linked chicks, and only the males will be barred.
The head spot thing works, sometimes, but only on purebred barred rocks, not mixes. But when you cross a red male, like a Welsummer or Rhode Island red onto a barred rock female, you get sex linked chicks. The male chicks will have barred feather and the females will be dark with some red feathers at the hackles. RIR males over barred rock females is the cross used to make black sex link chicks. It works just the same when the male is a Welsummer.I thought both my barred rocks were boys ....i did Google info on that and both born with white spot on top of head
Ok now I need to look at my dark chicks....see any that might be barred rock females?
