HI I am from Missouri and about 4 months ago decided to get guineas on somewhat of a whim one day..not knowing what I had in store for me :) I love them!!!

I have seven guineas that are 16 weeks and six that are 6 weeks and have so many questions. I am letting the older ones free range now. We have 6 acres that is backed up to 160 acres of a private camp land so they have lots of woods..although they are often seen walking in the street..sigh. I am glad I found this forum and will enjoy reading all about everyone's birdies and hope you all can help to educate a new guinea mama.

They have such personalities! Ron gets mad if George sits in my lap and bites until I hold him. My daughter gave the first bunch (all pearls) all Harry Potter names, so we have Bella (Bellatrix), Minnie (Minerva), Ron, Luna, George, Hermi (Hermione turned out to be a boy) and Hedwig (also turned out to be a boy). I've come to know each one by name. She gave the second bunch Lord of the Rings names: Gandalf the Brown, Precious, Frodo, Arwen, Legolas and Gollum. This second bunch is a group of very pied guineas. Their mama was all white and their dad was a pearl. The parent guineas came to holler their goodbyes as I drove off with their babies Their bellies are all white and wing feathers with pearl backs except for Gandalf and he is just pearl.

someone that lives near us has alot of guineas, they make the funniest noise. recently 2 have strayed near our yard and our chickens get very nosey and watch them. I tried to get close to them but geez they are fast!! I have heard them referred to as the watch dog of the farm because they alert you to preditors. thats a good quality!
