New Guinea mom

I have a heat light in coop at night but never in the box. I was told they need this heat lamp due to frigid temperatures. They won’t freeze in below 30º temps?
Because you have been heating them all along, you will need to wean them off of it. I do not provide my guineas with any supplemental heat or light. It can and does get down to -30ºF here.

Adult guineas do not need supplemental heat. Providing them with supplemental heat has prevented them from properly developing their feathers to protect them from cold temperatures.

Your guineas should not be laying at this time of year. If you are providing them with supplemental light that could explain it. I recommend discontinuing the supplemental light.
- @R2elk - east of me, but not far. Rosie hasn't laid clutches, but she has started dropping random eggs. I went back and looked. Last year I was talking abt finding a white egg and putting it in a 3rd nest in coop. The discussion must have originated earlier in another thread, bc I remember asking abt the significance of the small white egg vs. The bigger brown ones (wondering if it was Bella's & not the Jumbo's). But that conversation isn't in my thread. Point being they started practicing nest building and dropping eggs sometime in April. It was warm last winter, I really don't think this year was as warm. We're def having more snow/precip. In any event, Rosie is not THAT active, but going into gear. 🤷‍♀️

Mine started laying in April last year. I expect the same this year too.

Nah. My run is attached to coop and enclosed for the winter, so I usually don't even close pop door unless it's going to be single digits bc 3 prefer to sleep in run.
