New Guy does Chicken Rescue, etc.

Your setup sounds wonderful! We are quite interested in becoming more self-sufficient. Our goal is to live with minimal external nuisances, and to have the ability to live completely free of any outside influence if necessary.

I like the idea of salvaging/saving/adopting culled chickens, not to mention the lack of overall wasted potential! I admire your goals in this endeavor.

Wow .. would I love to sit down and have a long conversation with you!

Welcome!

Hi! I'm not sure if you're still following this thread. But I found the original posting while looking into how to help rescued chickens in Georgia (we're just south of Athens). We have three guineas (two boys and a girl) and we would like to get some chicken hens as companions to one of the boys who recently hurt his wing and so hasn't been allowed to range unless we're there to supervise. I really really don't want to buy any chickens and contribute to the "industry" so we thought that adoption/rescue would be a good way to add to our flock. I'd like to talk to you more, if you are still interested in placing rescued birds. I think my email should be visible in my profile, but if not please reply and I can give you my contact info. And thank you sooooo much for having the courage to get close enough to the "concentration camps" (as I call them) to try to help alleviate some of the immense torture that happens every second of every day.

Hello! I'm in Northeast Georgia and am interested in your project. I'd like to adopt 2 xbattery hens and give a try at giving them a good home for life. Do you know where I can find a rescue group or could you turn me on to a group up in our part of the state. Or even Gainesville would be OK as we see those loaded chicken trucks constantly and it's awful. My email address is:

Hello! Thanks so much for your reply! I am definitely looking to adopt some xbattery hens and we'll be returning to Georgia in November (we're in Arizona right now) and then I'll contact you directly. Interesting you're near Athens. We've been considering selling our house and moving there to be near UGA where I want to study Poultry Science. And there's much more civilization there for people like us who like to have more things to do like see live music. Clayton is beautiful but very quiet and not much to do.

I'll get in touch with you as soon as I return to GA. My email address is: [email protected]. Can you email me yours?
Thanks!

Laurie Voelker
