Hello all, looking forward to starting this adventure. I have a few questions what's the latest time of year to buy chicks in my area? And does anyone know where the best place to get blue laced red wyandottes, blue marans, and possible a blue ameracauna? I don't really know what hatcheries are good and what ones aren't. And locally it seems like they're hard to find. Thanks in advance look forward to chatting with you.

Welcome to BYC!

Most feed stores carry chicks this time of year, however the breeds you are looking for many not be easy to find in these stores. Hatcheries like My Pet Chicken, Murray McMurray, Ideal Poultry, Mount Healthy, are all good hatcheries. You can get chicks as late as late summer. They will still have time to adjust before winter. You might also connect with others in your states thread to see where they are getting their birds...

You might also want to do some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of good reads on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new adventure!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you some good sources for chicks, since you want rather more unusual blue color in the breeds, you might check the BYC Buy-Sell-Trade forum, either for hatching eggs or chicks, some people will do custom hatches for you if they have the breeds you want.
