I found your web site doing searches for chicken coops. I am new chicken raising, farming, being a chickeneer LOL. I live on 6.3 acres and plan to build my first coop. I am planning on having about 15-20 hens and a big old rooster. I have never raised chickens before so I have been researching the subject and have not bought any yet. I volunteer at our churches food bank and plan to donate excess eggs. I will be asking some questions in the appropriate forums. Mike

Hi :welcome Mike

Glad you could join the flock! It sounds like you are some great plans there for your new chicken adventures. Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots of fab articles that will really help you on your way ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Nice to meet you Mike, welcome to Backyard chickens. Have you checked out the coops section above, for styles, sizes, etc. Rule of thumb is 4-5sq. feet per bird inside the coop excluding nest boxes and roost poles. Allow 10 sq. feet per bird in the outdoor run. A crowded chicken is an angry one - better to keep the peace.

Thank you all for the welcome. I had a discussion with a nice well informed lady at the feed store who keeps chickens and she recommended a book called Chick Days which I read last nite so that helps. I do need to learn more about coop design nest box size roost poles etc. I have built many structures so making a coop is no issue I just need to have a good design.

Thanks Mike
