Hello all! I’m finally deciding to start my retired life raising chickens for fun! Oh, and for the eggs too! Copied the “questions” from the intro post:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I was raised in Dominican Republic where chickens are a household thing. My grandparents had a huge farm and we used to play with chickens all the time. A few months ago my wife and I decided to get some chicks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Right now we have 9 chickens (one of the possibly a rooster).
(3) What breeds do you have? We have 3 Sapphire gems, Golden comet, Rhode Island Red, Silver laced Wyandotte, Black australorp, Barred rock, and our Olive egger we think is a rooster. They’re about 3 months old now.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They’re just so much fun and very social. They love seeing me in the yard because they know I have treats for them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy being outside. Love farm animals.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I’m a retired Army Veteran. We’ve got 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 ducks along with our chickens. They all get along so well.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I wanted to figure out if we had a rooster and Googled the question and found this page.
