Just joined. Am 66 years old, retired and have always wanted to raise my own chickens. I just got 6 Buff Orpingtons and they are about 3 weeks old. I am waiting on a coop kit I ordered. The girls are healthy and hardy and starting to develop personalities already. We live in Wright City, Mo. in an AG area. I have been dealing with the people at my local Orscheln and they have been great for all my needs so far. Am looking forward to getting lots of advice from the members because everyone has more experience than I do.

I'm from Missouri, too. I'm in Jefferson County about 40 miles or so south of St. Louis.

Congrats on your chicks! There's plenty of good information here and many, many helpful members. One of the most useful tools is the search bar near the top of the page. You can type in there for whatever you're looking to read about.

Welcome to BYC I hope your enjoying your new flock so far. With a coop kit you just purchased you may want to reinforce the coop some to make it a bit stronger.

Here is a link for other members in your state. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you Just click on link find your state and see what is going on over there as well. Enjoy your new babies chicks.

Welcome & Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Here is the link to find your local thread which Cntry1958 mentioned: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
