New Hampshire Red thread!!!!!!!!!

I think you might be right, it is on both sides of the head and they all have it in about the same area. Here is a little better picture of it.

Yeah, that sounds like earlobes.
Please don't think that I'm belittling you at all! When I first got chickens, I posted pictures of a "specialty breed" I got from TSC and someone asked me what color its earlobes were. My response was, "Chickens have earlobes????" That person didn't answer me. =(
Oh, well, my point is that I'm not belittling you. =)

@TeaChick & @Bogtown Chick Thanks for the responses. I really felt silly at first, but no biggie. I am new to this so am probably going to ask alot of silly questions before I'm through. Course my daddy always said the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Also here is another possibly silly question...is it possible for a chick to try to start to crow at a little over 2 weeks old and do hens try to crow??? Cause I have a couple "pullets" that look like they are really trying to crow, no sound yet just going through the motions.

No such thing as a silly question. And we've all been there! Chickenology is what your learning. The science of chickens with no other useful purpose in life other than raising chickens. Haha! And there's a mother-load of info and learning curve to it. But it's fun! I was just reading about 4 weekers trying to crow... It's very possible you have some wee cockerels. 3 of my first 9 pullets were sexed wrong. It happens. The hard part of course was getting down to one. But we did. The New Hampshire rose like cream to the top, of course. I wanted the partridge rock at first, I thought. But he was aweful to the hens. If those two are showing to be more overtly friendly and leading the way around the brooder already then most likely you've got some boys.

It's possible they're trying, but it's unlikely at that age.
My NH chicks were two weeks old on Tues. The girls are really getting tail feathers and the boys aren't at all. The boys are way behind the girls on tail feathers. There are very few times in their development that a difference can't be seen readily; that's one of the things I really like about this breed.
Also, for future reference, I've been told that this breed can't be feather sexed; however, every chick I've received I have feather sexed and they have been exactly what they feather sexed as.

Keep us updated. =)
