Hi, Everyone!
My name is Tara, and my husband, Paul, and I are brand new chicken owners! We just brought home seven two month old New Hampshire Reds yesterday. I hatched them as a project with my high school science students.
We have already made the mistake of letting them into the run from the start- we're going to keep them confined to the coop for a few days now after having to manhandle them into the coop tonight and yesterday. I think we did a pretty good job of predator-proofing the coop, but I am definitely having trouble sleeping with them out there! We live near a lot of conservation land in Groton, Massachusetts and the woods are full of fishers, foxes, and coyotes. I have never seen a fox in our yard until today- the second day with chickens- ahh!
Excited about joining this community!
Take care!
