Want to know what you do for the coop during the winter months!! Also, what part of NH are you? I'm Newfields!

Hi Jack
I live in the lakes region. I have just started a flock of silkies this spring. I have one of those small coops from tractor supply. Im guessing i will need something warmer for the winter months.

That should be fine. I have a coop similar to Tractor Supply coops. Just stuff lots of straw/shavings into there home and maybe invest in some sort of insulation..

Anyone need a new heated waterer as winter gets closer? I purchased a new K&W Thermo Poultry Waterer, brought it home, and realized it was far too big for the space I have. So it is new, unused. Was purchased for $58, would sell for $25. These are the specs: https://www.cheshirehorse.com/thermo-poultry-waterer

Because of its size, it would probably cost about the purchase price to ship, so most likely should meet up somewhere to exchange. I live between Brattleboro, VT and Keene, NH.

The best thing you can do for the winter is keep the drafts off from your birds roosting area.they are cold tolerant and produce down to keep them warm.If you provide a heat source they do not produce the right amount of down.If you lose electric out goes their heat source and they more then likely freeze to death.Just poly their pen and they should be fine, but don't cover it now,let it get cold so they produce their down, then cover their pen.Don't get it so tight that moister builds up in their pen, leave an air flow.
