New Hatches Due May 6th, 12th, 17th. Anyone else?

Its a French black copper maran. All 20 are the same

HI! I think I joined in a while back.... Anywho- My broody started her set on the 1st, but we took some eggs, 5 out of 6, from her and put them in our incubator to watch them hatch. We had a 100% hatch rate and now have 5 cute lil chickies in the house brooder, and we left one for the hard workin' momma. She hatched that one out sometime last night! So, 6 out of 6! We're happy!!

Funny thing tho- 4 are black, and 2 are very yellow with one small spot of black! The eggs came from the broody and her sister- both had the same parents, and the eggs all had the same dad.

Can anyone explain these genetics? Mom is a mix of Buff Laced Polish and Marans, and the dad is a full Jersey Black Giant. Weird how 2 are yellow and 4 are black.

Anyone?

I am not believing my eyes!!!!!! It's five days after my original hatch date!!! I work in the shop on Saturdays so my weekends are pretty busy. I had left the incubator just sitting all weekend, still plugged in mind you. I just walked away and put my one lil chick in the brooder and started my busy weekend. I just went in and stared at it in disappointment and wondering just how and what I was going to use to clean it when one of the eggs practically jumped!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable!!! I grabbed my flashlight and I have made several trips back and forth looking, trying to make sure that I am not seeing things but, I am not!!! There are two eggs in there just a wobbling and jumping back and forth. My first reaction was to check the temp and humidity. Temp was perfect and humidity was 61. I added a lil bit more water to wet my sponge!!! Cross your fingers for me! I would be thrilled if just one more lil chick would hatch out to keep my other company. Right now that one stands on top of a stuffed animal trying to make itself tall enough to look over the brooder wall!

Cross your fingers for me!!!!

nyseman- your chick is just adorable. I'm so happy you got 20 chicks out of this hatch, congrats!

suzettex5- congrats on your 6 out of 6! I couldn't help you with your breeds/genetics questions. I have absolutely no experience with Marans. You could probably ask over in the "What Breed or Gender is this" forum. There are a lot of people that could probably tell you. Hey, you gonna post pics of these new babies and momma?????

Oh my gosh! What cute chicks!! They are all so fluffy!! Lucky is adorable! Congrats on them all! Momma is quite pretty too.
