I purchased a few Welsh Harlequin eggs online and after a very difficult day I was able to help hatch two ducklings (one didn’t make it). All three ducklings could pip but not turn and hatch. I assume due to high humidity during incubation (dry incubation but Memphis is humid). Anyway, the last duckling came out strong but his head hasn’t straightened from the position in the egg. Is this the stargazing or wry neck I have heard about? I have them drinking water with sav-a-chick electrolytes and eating starter with yeast flakes in it. Will his head straighten? If so, when? He is managing to eat and drink but he walks in circles.

You want to start him on liquid b complex vitamins as soon as you can. About 100 mg a day. I did mine as part of a mash for my duckling. Then do vitamin be and selenium for this I just started doing hard boiled eggs. Or you can do a good branded cat food canned food too for both. See if it gets better with just that. If not your going to need to do vitamin e caps that you poke a hole in and squirt onto something for them. I did the egg and fish for selenium because I didn’t want to overdose on it and that’s harder to do with food. I also made sure that he got peas daily too for the natural niacin.

I got started very late with the right stuff at the right amounts so my little one just finished getting better at just shy of 7 weeks but has been clear for at least two now.

Here he is today he looked almost as bad as your little one at his worse.

I will try anything but she isn’t failing. In fact her head is straighter tonight than this afternoon. I thought wry neck was from too weak to lift their head? This baby had to be hatched because he couldn’t progress past pipping. It’s as if he was stuck in that head tuck position too long. If vitamins will help I will head to the feed store before they close.

My baby was much the same. I had to assist in his hatch thought I did something wrong. I tried the vitamins and he showed fewer problems after a day or two. Eggs have a good amount of vitamin E and selenium so it’s a good choice at its current age. I would put it in a mash though with everything. I had to separate my little one out because he kept getting toppled on hopefully your little one shows improvement before then.
