We had it for about 5 min. and then it was put back out in the field where we found it. It was in the middle of the road, thats the only reason why we saw it.
No, not at all. Stress is a dangerous things for hedgehogs; something you would have no problem with can upset them quite badly. Their digestive systems are typically sensitive and if their tummy gets upset they don't want to eat, which throws them into a loophole of problems.
Outdoor setups for European species in gardens, etc are great for them, so long as there is no interaction (stress, danger factor for the humans involved due to bacteria on the quills) and they do not rely on you as a main food source.
