Will a hen that has not started laying eggs go broody?

What breed is she? If it's a silkie I wouldn't doubt it.

However normally no, a hen will lay at least a few eggs before going broody if she's going to go broody at all.

Okay, so a definite broody breed but still, they usually start to lay eggs first. Is she spending alot of time in the nestbox?

I lost a girl to eggbound condition 'cause I thought she had gone broody. She was young and had only laid a few very large eggs. Watch her closely. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

No shes not but do you know a way I can encourage her to go broody?

I have a bantam cochin who started laying on Aug 2nd, and proceeded to lay 13 eggs in 15 days. On the 17th she went broody, despite there being nothing to sit on.

Nope, sorry. I tried every trick in the book to get a hen to go broody without success. Then I gave up and ordered silkies. Now I have non-stop broodies.
