I am getting a new hen house for my two buffs next week. They have been in their present coop since they were hatched. (About a year). Is it going to be difficult to get them to use the new house? Should I set the houses side by side or take the old one down immediately?:/

Keep old one locked and new one open. At first they will try to get into the one that they are used to going into. You will have to put them into new one for the night. In a few days of this , they will be going into new one by themselves. Remember that chickens don't view a new coop in the same way as people. A shelter is a shelter to them. Looks like you really love your pets treating them so well. BEST TO YOU.

Keep them locked up in the new coop for a 2-3 days and nights.

I assume you free range.

Then let them out a couple hours before sundown but lock up the old coop....
.....they should go back into the new one at roost time.
