About a week ago, we brought home a new breed of chicken (Hollands). There are 3 hens and a roo. One of these hens just came down with some serious breathing issues. I separated her from the rest that seem normal. I cleaned out the coop today, thoroughly. I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with the hen now. She acts lethargic, won't eat or drink, strictly breathes through her mouth, and has her eyes closed most of the time. Something that concerns me is that she hardly uses the bathroom and when she does it's a cream colored mess of diarrhea and some red tinted parts of the feces. I fear she may die within a couple of days. Are there any home remedies or anything that can help her breathe?

Red tint makes me think blood.
How old/young are the new chickens?
You MAY be dealing with Coccidiosis.
Can you collect some fresh poop and run it to the nearest vet for a fecal float to test for Coccidiosis and worms?

They are about 3 months old. I don't believe it's blood but I think I'll do what you said. Thank you

I would bet that they have picked up some Coccidiosis.
If it is in fact Cocci...a fecal test will tell you for sure and Corid will fix them up very nicely.

It was in fact coccidiosis. I started all my chickens on Corid. The hen that was sick is now feeding herself and can finally sleep. I would have posted pictures but the site wouldn't let me.
