I wanted to introduce myself. I am living in Southern New England, in a suburban neighborhood overrun with wildlife (foxes, bears, raccoons, opossums, etc). I have always wanted backyard poultry and am considering a small flock of ducks. I am looking to connect with someone who has experience in my geographic area. For me, reading books about duck care isn't enough; I need to talk to someone who's been there and done that so I can get a picture of what life might be like if I go forward.

Welcome to BYC!

You might want to start in our Ducks section to talk directly to duck owners so you can get a feel for keeping them...

You can also chat with all your chicken neighbors in the UK thread and maybe someone there does keep ducks and can help you get started in your area....

Enjoy this new journey you are on! I hope someone can help you get started and help you along this new path. Welcome to our flock!

X2 on the Ducks section. You will probably find someone from your neck of the woods there, or you can try your state thread in the Where am I? Where are you! forum section. If you have that many predators in your area I would suggest you reinforce at least the lower 2 feet of your run with hardware cloth as well as any windows/openings in the duck's house. There are some articles on the different predators and what preventative measures you can take here:

Good luck with your new venture and enjoy the site!
