We have 6 one-month-old chicks. I don't remember the breeds, but 2 are yellow (my dd's class at school hatched them) and 4 are black with grayish spots on them (purchased from the feed store). We are not sure if the yellow ones are male or female yet, but the others are all hens. We have had them in a rabbit hutch since we got them. We are almost done with their new pen.

The area we want to move the chick pen to has a huge fire ant bed. Will the chicks eat the ants? Or do we need to find another spot? I tried to kill off the ant bed about 6-8 weeks ago, but it didn't work. This is Texas and ants don't go away easily! So what should I do? I don't want to put the chicks in there if the ants will hurt them, but i have a feeling the chicks will just eat the ants.

Thanks!

My chickens do not eat ants. Mine are little black ants, not fire ants. Try putting a couple in there and see if they eat them or not. Good luck

I wouldn't put them in with fire ants. I'm in Oklahoma and they will swarm anything and with chicks, they could easily kill them. Mine will peck at the little black ants, but I think the fire ants will be too much for them.
