New here, and I have a couple questions

I bought chick grit from my local feed store. It's by nutri source. The package says you can give it to them up to 10 weeks. I noticed that not all the feed stores in the area carry it. If by chance you are near the Tampa area I bought it at Harold's Farm Supply.

oh... My chicks loved the plain yogurt. They also seem to really like cucumber insides and soldier fly grubs.

I had never really given treats to newbie's in the 6 year's I have been hatching.However I made DH some Mac. salad about a week ago.I Processed the left over tomato celery and radish and the cuke rind's finely ground.I just out of curiosity put just a pinch in the brooder because the older bird's are like MANIC on the Free Choice/treat bowl.They actulay pecked at it it took the 4 a day or so to really clean it out and I wont hesitate now to put a lil something in for them.It's all natural and They love it.Hen's will naturaly have chick's foraging in a few day's and eating grass and everything.I've just been so protective I guess but...I prefer mama raised chick's but I have raised so many gaaaaaa.I have Totaly Went green with my bird's.My daughters BF has made this box in BY and there is some kind of weird new grubby worm's and he has been putting them in there hoping to breed them for bird feed.They are brown in color never seen them here since before this year the bird's have been going Nut'z on them.

haha your chicks sound so cute x3 anyways though. when we are feeding grit to our bigger chickens we just put it in a pile on the

ground, or mix it in the food for them. You could put it in a bowl if you want it is up 2 u. I'm sure they won't stuff themselves on grit lol.

as far as heat goes..If they are on medicated starter feed then they should be able to go with out a lamp at about 3 weeks old.

especially since u say its in the 80s where u are.

and as far as treats go...


1) my chickens LOVE watermelon and it is perfectly fine for the babies to eat it.

2) quick oats maybe?

3) My chickens used to love banana

4) my baby chicks seemed to like Smashed boiled/scrambled egg
