In the Brooder
(Her personal guard dog)
Hello fellow chicken lovers!! Hope this finds everyone in good health!!
I’ve taken a lot of advice from this page over the year, and I finally joined!!!
I live in a small town in Virginia, and started my chicken journey about a year ago with 7 polish chicks! Sadly they didn’t all make it, but not long after I got the original 7, I got 6 more, including 2 bantam Cochins hens! Sweet!! So I had 10 at this point 2 Roos and 8 hens!! No eggs yet!! But I got a super cool looking brood! And I’m really falling in love with these little dinosaurs!! They seem to make the stress of the day just melt away! They even started to reacted when I went into the coop, one of my Roos even attacked me! (How sweet! NOT) and not to mention my hubby seems to be encouraging me to get more!! Awesome he’s on board!! Now a little over a year later I have 44, polish, americaunas , legbars, Cochins, silkies and lots of chicks! Wow! Atleast there not cats or dogs! They give back to me!! HOW COOL!!! My dogs are a little standoffish being there chihuahuas and my girls attack them, but everyone is living in harmony! It’s the best hobby yet! I love it, who knew it would be so rewarding?!? I didn’t! I’m a city girl stuck in the country and now I don’t mind! I’ve learned how to do all kinds of things, being a little more self sustainable! Don’t have to buy eggs anymore, SCORE!! Had 100% hatch rate of my 15 eggs!! And I hatched out 8 in my incubator first time ever!! How cool! And my 6 year old and all her friends loved to watch and candle the eggs! Now I have 12 crazy chicks in the house and I need to build a grow out pen!! Went to Lowe’s yesterday! Will start when hubs gets home from work!! I love this and really wish I would of gotten into it earlier! I’ve gone chicken crazy which I’ve noticed isn’t hard to do!!
