I had a Fred too! Except he was the submissive one and in with a dominant hatch mate and I actually thought he was retarded. He hatched with a bald butt, screeched instead of cheeped and one side of his tail grew curly feathers the other side was straight. Never crowed or tried anything. A customer came by for another chicken and we discussed Fred being retarded and she wanted him saying he reminded her of a retarded rat she used to have. It was good he didn't crow as she already had one roo. As soon as she got him home he ran the other rooster out, took over the coop, started to crow and bred everything in site! Now Fred is the Boss! (and no longer retarded)
I don't know silkies very well but I know someone who raises them and she says it is very hard to tell sometimes the sex on silkies. I would wait till he started to crow to know for sure. Just curious, those who say it's a roo, how can you tell?
