New here and need advice on a mean roo

Half beak looks so sad I would say eat her and her abuser together. You would only be doing them both a favor. Get a new male and more females this time. I have four females to a male.

Halfbeak is actually doing well. She takes daily dust baths in her food and grit and seems like a happy bird to me. I found the male a home at the local college where I work in the biology department. He will be used in "diversity of life" labs as a living example of a galliforme. Yay for happy endings! He won't ever be around a hen again, but also wont be lonely or anything. I'll pull females from the eggs I have in the incubator, and I'll get a new male off craigslist in the spring or at least once the new hens are adult and integrated into my current group. :)

I think that was just a bad pic of HalfBeak. She has little feather pins all over her head now and so does Baldy. If I thought she were suffering or unhappy I'd eat her, but I think they are ok. I may be new to quail, but I am not new to birds in general-- I've kept them since I was nine years old.

Oh that's awesome about the rehoming

Maybe by a window would be ideal for him? My main male "protects his girls from me" but also loves being cupped and pet while standing in his cage hehe. He makes the cutest angry sounds but he's the first quail trying to get in my hands and sleeves for love and snuggles :p

I think Halfbeak will be fine, you're right :) as long as she isn't in pain and can eat and drink proper, she doesn't care ^^

grats to her on her egg
