Congrats on your egg 
New layers can and do sometimes it wrong in where to lay the eggs. You could put some fake eggs in the nest box so they can see them, this could encourage them to lay in there. Also do you have plenty of bedding in the boxes? Mine like to nestle down in it and make themselves comfy to do their egg laying.
Good luck with getting them to lay in the boxes. I'm sure once they have been laying a little longer they will get the idea.
