Hello everyone. I am new here and new to raising domestic ducks (we've been enjoying 'wild' Mallards that have made their home in our pond for years now). Currently we (my children and I) are preparing for our first ducklings to arrive in April. We have chosen to raise Blue Swedish ducks. We hope to sell duck eggs and ducks (for pets) locally some day.
My daughters and I would love to get to know other people who love ducks and we'd sure appreciate any tips for first timers!

Thanks!

Feed them correctly. NO CHICKEN FOOD! Get game bird starter crumbles (with niacin). Switch to game bird grower at about 4 months.

Thanks for the tip!

We have a large natural spring fed pond that will be fenced in with the duck house. The pond has been supporting Mallard ducks for years now.
I am wondering, how much feed should I give my domestic ducks if they spend a good deal of time foraging in the pond and yard?

Enough to keep them coming home: about 1/2cup per duck per morning and lure them at night with peas and a bit more food,.

Happy ducks LOVE food that is "free" and available.

BTW. if you are raising flying mallards, all bets could be off. I had 6 and lost 3 to the air....... Best to pen them up than free range.

Just make sure you feed them right. Not feeding them right can cause major problems witch can be avoided with good feeding. And keep them away from predators. I keep a shotgun rdy so nothing will get my duckies......im over protective of my babies
