Hello all! I've been lurking for a while, but decided to finally take the plunge into membership. I've been building a small free-range flock, with mostly RIRs and a few other breeds, but I'm looking at branching out...actually, I have my MM order set to arrive & the next batch of eggs set to hatch right around the same time...2/13 is hatch day (JGs and home-growns) and 2/16-ish is ship day (BRs, RIRs, NHRs, blue cochins, buff orps, JGs, a few polish, and a few more that I can't remember what they are). I'm going to have WAAAAAAAAAY too many chicks. My husband has decided that I am becoming certifiabley insane with this chicken thing. I figured that it was time to seek support for my addiction here

Anyway...looking forward to posting pics when the babies hatch & arrive! So far, all 20 eggs candled w/embryos on day 8 (yesterday).

You have jumped in with both feet, haven't you! Welcome to BYC, good luck with the hatch and shipment, and don't forget to post pictures. Of course, I don't, but all the other people on this website go nuts over pictures of baby chicks!

I've done this before - though, back then, I was in high school and doing it with mutts in a home-made bator - today I've gone a little more high-tech (and have a LOT less time). At least this hobby is "functional" - much more so than the four-legged pasture pets that just eat and provide manure in return!
