Hey all, what a great place! We recently added some babies to our growing list of "friends". I grew up on a turkey/chicken/rabbit farm in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and it's nice to get back to my roots have have a little urban farm just outside of the Tampa Bay area. Although my Oregon family thinks I'm nuts, as city people don't have chickens. Little do they know!

My son is in awe of our new babies, he is now 7 years old and so ready for this adventure. We just started our small flock with a Rhode Island Red (Rosey), Buff Orpington (Uni), an Ameraucana (Jello), and a Guinea hen named Tiger. Should be interesting when the Guinea is grown, I don't think my son has any idea of what "tiger" will grow up to be like. In addition to our baby flock we have 4 Pugs ages 1, 9,10, 13, a 15 year old Boston Terrier, a 7 years old Catahula Leopard Dog, a fish, hermit crab, and 2 cats. I'm sure there are some other creatures as well that I don't know about.

We have been busy working on the "chicken yard" and hope to have it done in the next month or so. We bought a kit for a chicken coop on ebay as I don't have the patience to build anything right now in the terrible Florida sun, but when the cooler months come we will work on making them a nice all season home.

Here is the temp home for the babies (I painted it to match our house). They are very happy just picking away. At night I tuck them away in the upper part to keep them safe. Don't need to keep them warm like we did back home. Our lows are in the mid 70's now! YUCK!

See ya around!

Hi Sarina, very nice to meet you. Wow you must be a great dog caretaker 15 yr. old Boston, progressive Pugs etc. I had Cockers and the oldest made it to 14.5 but, she was the exception. I love Pugs too. In fact my last Cocker was Puggy. My mom said he looked like a little bull, so how she ended up calling him Puggy, was a surprise to us all.

What color Pugs did you have? Did you raise them? Oh forgot about Chickens. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

@drumstick diva I feel very blessed to have my Boston and aging pugs with us. It's never a dull moment with a 1 year old puppy and the seniors, but I would not have it any other way. My pugs are all fawn in color. I lost my 15 year old black pug in April, her heart was older than her body and just went to sleep to get her angel wings. I have actually lost 3 over the past 18 months, especially hard since all of them I have either whelped or had since wee babies. I used to show pugs many moons ago.

@DavidJay I need to see a photo of your coop! Sounds awesome!!! We just wish it would cool down so I could get our chicken yard done before they grow out of this little house I have for them! It's HOT!!! They are growing faster than I can keep up with!

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Thought I would share one of my pugs (Milan, 9 years old) with Uni (3 weeks old). Milan thinks she is the mother hen to these babies. She is quite loving with them and will lay outside their house and just watch them pick and scratch. She will press her nose up against the wire in hopes that one will approach her. I'm trying to raise them all together so when the babies are full size this winter the pugs can share the yard with them all in harmony! However, I don't ever expect harmony from my herding dog "Shelly".....the instinct is impossible to de-sensitize her to the chickens.
