Hello,
We just started our chicken adventure with 8 assorted (light sussex and rhode island red and two maybe white rock) about 4 months ago.
We have lost 5 due to a crafty racoon, maybe a fox as well.
I'm hatching some new ones and we are on the prowl for the predator as well as securing the chickens even better.
Racoon tore through the chicken wire. :(
Anyway, I love chicken keeping... We love the eggs, but also plan to eat the roosters from this hatch. Plan to slaughter for the first time end of December I think. I don't really eat meat otherwise. I hate the commercial poultry business here in the USA.

from California! To prevent the racoons getting back into your run, replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth, which is a super strong wire that they cannot rip through. You can get it at any hardware store/Lowes/Home Depot. They will keep coming back unfortunately. Sorry about your losses :(
