Hello all. I am new to having backyard chickens. I have 14 red star hens that are 16 weeks ago and very spoiled. I am also attempting to introduce a little BA cockerel. We love him, but the girls are divided. LOL. I browse this website often for info. and it has been invaluable for health and overall care information. I never, ever thought I would have chickens, but it has been a blast, and I am anxiously awaiting for my girls to start laying. I know I have a few weeks left for that, so I'm trying to be patient. I just wanted to say hello, and thanks! I do have a question, so I'm going to pop over to the board and find the right category.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you are really enjoying your flock! Chickens are so much fun to keep. Most people don't realize that until after they get started.

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! Red Stars (Red Sex Links) are egg laying machines and Black Australorps are terrific standard breed chickens and my personal favorite for their hardiness, gentle temperament, and excellent egg laying ability (yours of course is a rooster, but he will pass this ability to his offspring). Good luck with your flock.
